This film is adapted from the sci-fi novel Nerawareta Gakuen by Taku Mayumura, originally published in 1973 and adapted multiple times into TV and live-action formats. The futuristic themes of time travel and a transformed Earth are impressive considering the novel’s early origin. Visually and audibly, the film is a treat, with stunning animation, detailed backgrounds, and well-matched sound design. However, character development is uneven.
