After fighting his demons for decades, John Rambo now lives in peace on his family ranch in Arizona, but his rest is interrupted when Gabriela, the granddaughter of his housekeeper María, disappears after crossing the border into Mexico to meet her biological father. There is something a little "True Grit" about this - not because the script is good; nor the scenery, score or acting - but that a star is daring to look old and "lived-in" and for that Stallone deserves praise. The film itself is a very slow burn as it focusses initially on the activities of his feisty but naive neice 'Gabriela" (Yvette Monreal) as she gets embroiled with a Mexican drug/whoring cartel that means he has to go risk life and limb to recover her and fend off their pursuers.
