Liaison is a rather predictable Western spy thriller. It adopts the simplistic formula of everyone opposed to the West being "bad", whilst the West is painted as good and virtuous. Syria, is painted as the bad guys. This ignores inconvenient facts. For example, the West's uninvited presence in Syria, being largely illegal, under international law. Moving beyond the propaganda, the story is your standard spy thriller fare, with a dollop of alarmist rhetoric about super hackers and how the authorities are there to keep everyone "safe".
